There’s nothing more summery than fresh seafood enjoyed by the beach at Burleigh Heads. Led by Simon Gloftis of Hellenika, the Gold Coast dining scene has matured significantly over the past decade, and The Fish House stands out as a fine example of that evolution. Here, simplicity and freshness are the guiding principles, resulting in consistently excellent dishes and a relaxed yet refined dining experience.
The menu offers a wide range of gluten-free options, making it easy for guests with dietary needs to find something satisfying. My starter was a thick, creamy lemon fish soup — a comforting bowl that brought back memories of psarosoupa at my mother’s table. It was bright, nourishing, and perfectly balanced.
The daily raw sashimi selection showcases the quality of the seafood. Served simply with a drizzle of olive oil and a squeeze of lemon, each piece highlights the freshness and pristine flavour of the fish.

For mains, the John Dory with pan-roasted eggplant, zucchini and tomato was flaky and tender with a great balance of classic Southern European flavours. The vegetables complemented the fish without overpowering it, and the dish felt both comforting and refined.
The kids’ fish and chips arrive in mini metal baskets lined with paper — a small touch that elevates the presentation and makes the dish feel special. You can choose pan-fried, battered or crumbed fish; we ordered all three so everyone could compare. Most of the menu is naturally gluten free except for crumbed items, giving plenty of safe choices for those avoiding gluten.
Dessert did not disappoint. The chocolate fondant, conveniently gluten free, was warm and gooey — my clear favourite. The children enjoyed homemade gelato in vanilla bean and coconut milk chocolate flavours, though their spoons occasionally strayed into the fondant when my back was turned.
The Fish House is a showcase of top-quality seafood prepared with restraint and respect for the ingredients. With a menu that highlights fresh produce, a comfortable yet classy atmosphere, and smart presentation, it’s a Gold Coast seafood institution worth visiting on your next trip.
