Not all blueberries are the same.

When I was small, I used to call blueberries “bloobies,” or so my mother tells me.
My love for blueberries runs deep — I eat a cup every single day. So when The Wild Blueberry Association invited me to experience the Wild Blueberry barrens in Maine this August, I nearly fell out of my chair.

MAINE. BLUEBERRIES. Time off work was inevitable. What could be better than spending four days in Bay Harbor among one of my favorite fruits?
We all know and love blueberries for their antioxidants, fiber, and great taste. But Wild Blueberries are something special — they’re intensely blueberry.
Wild Blueberries are harvested and frozen at peak freshness in Maine, Eastern Canada, and Quebec. This native North American fruit packs twice the antioxidants of regular cultivated blueberries, displays a deeper blue color, and delivers a more concentrated flavor. As a wild native variety, these berries grow naturally in a specific region and are never planted. Frozen Wild Blueberries retain their nutrients and are available year-round in the frozen section of most grocery stores.

If you want to join in on the Wild Blueberry excitement, the Wild Blueberry Association is running a Facebook contest called Wild Summer Sips from Monday, July 27th through Friday, August 14th. Each week features prizes — including items like a Vitamix and a Yonanas dessert maker — leading up to a grand prize of a $500 Whole Foods gift card plus a set of six Wild Blueberry mason jar mugs.

Everyone who enters receives the Wild Summer Sips Recipe Book, a digital collection of Wild Blueberry summer drink recipes contributed by food and nutrition bloggers, including the recipe for this sparkling lemonade.

Now’s the time to add some sparkle to your summer with this bubbly blue beverage. Bursting with coconut and lemon flavors, it’s one of the most refreshing drinks I’ve had this season. Coconut water lends hydration and a gentle sweetness without added sugar.
Sip and enjoy. For more recipes, see the Wild Blueberry Blog’s Sparkling Wild Blueberry Lemonade recipe.
